At Richmond, we believe a student’s future should be motivated by their promise — not their financial circumstances. The Accelerate Richmond campaign seeks to substantially increase affordability and attract the most exceptional students regardless of family resources.

With support from an anonymous donor, the University is offering $50 million in matching funds to help accelerate our efforts to make Richmond more affordable. This one-to-one match will be applicable to new gifts and commitments between $50,000 and $1.5M to support endowed scholarships.

How the Match Works

The Richmond Affordability Initiative is a dollar-for-dollar match for donors who fund endowed scholarships.

  • You can create new or add to existing scholarships designated for undergraduate, Law, Graduate Business, or SPCS students.
  • The matching amount will be added to the same scholarship fund as your gift, doubling the impact of your generosity.
  • You may pay your gift immediately or make a commitment to be paid over as many as five years.

Commonly Asked Questions

  • Gifts or commitments must be at least $50,000, the university’s minimum to create an endowed scholarship, in order to qualify for the match.
  • Gifts will be matched up to a maximum per household of $1.5 million, the gift level to support a full undergraduate scholarship.
  • Matching funds will be available until the original $50M is expended, or the end of the Accelerate Richmond campaign, whichever comes first.
  • Matching funds will be applied after receipt of donor funds.
  • Match applies to all endowed undergraduate scholarships: need-based, merit, or athletic.
  • Match applies to all endowed Law school, Graduate Business, and SPCS scholarships.
